Role Overview
The Centre for Holistic Inquiry into Lifelong Learning (CHILL) at the National University of Singapore is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Educational Technology. This position will be based at the Kent Ridge Campus and involves leading a technical team to develop AI-powered educational platforms while engaging collaboratively with multidisciplinary research partners in study design, planning, and evaluation. The role combines key responsibilities in applied AI engineering, human-computer interaction (HCI) research, and educational technology, requiring strong technical leadership alongside active research participation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and technical supervision to a team of AI and Research Engineers, including setting priorities and mentoring.
- Work closely with pedagogical researchers to contribute to research design and study planning, especially assessing technical feasibility and communication.
- Drive the roadmap for development and deployment of AI-driven educational platforms, ensuring coherence with research objectives and project requirements.
- Remain actively engaged with system architecture design, AI pipeline construction, and platform coding tasks.
- Act as the primary liaison between technical staff and research stakeholders, effectively translating technical constraints into research contexts.
- Lead and participate in scholarly publication efforts at leading conferences and journals in HCI, AI, and computer science education domains.
- Monitor, evaluate, and implement novel AI methodologies aligned with the team’s research goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Doctorate degree (PhD) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, or a closely related field.
- Robust technical foundation in AI and Machine Learning, with a particular interest and knowledge of generative AI techniques such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal systems.
- Proficiency in Python programming and experience with React-based web frameworks, like Next.js or equivalent technologies.
- Demonstrated history of managing or coordinating teams, projects, or research initiatives within technical environments.
- Experience contributing to research conceptualization, drafting protocols, and evaluating technical feasibility collaboratively.
- Established record of research publications within leading venues covering HCI, AI, or Educational Technology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders in a multidisciplinary context.
- Ability to stay current with emerging AI tools and research methodologies.
Additional Information
This position is categorized under Research Staff and is situated physically at the Kent Ridge Campus. The role requires on-site presence and full-time commitment. Candidates must be able to start as per the hire process schedule. The job emphasizes both leadership and hands-on technical contributions in a dynamic academic research environment.
