Job Summary
The Regional Director of Operations will provide strategic and operational oversight for manufacturing activities within the region. Responsible for leading Plant Managers and site leadership, this role ensures the achievement of production targets, quality, safety, compliance, and cost management across multiple facilities. The position partners closely with the Associate Vice President of Manufacturing Operations, Security & Facilities to align regional execution with enterprise strategies, emphasizing continuous improvement, labor optimization, and operational standardization in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operations across multiple manufacturing sites, managing Plant Managers and leadership teams to meet production, safety, quality, and financial goals.
- Ensure compliance with all cannabis regulations, GMP, SOPs, and company policies.
- Translate enterprise manufacturing strategies into actionable regional plans tailored to business needs.
- Promote a culture focused on accountability, excellence, employee engagement, and improvement.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing performance metrics to drive improvements in throughput, schedule adherence, labor productivity, equipment use, OEE, waste reduction, yield growth, and cost control.
- Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives, standardize best practices and workflows, and facilitate Kaizen events to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Supply Chain, Procurement, Planning, Automation, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Compliance, Finance, and HR to optimize production planning and execution.
- Manage regional manufacturing budgets, monitor expenses, and seek profitability improvements through operational efficiencies.
- Coach and develop regional manufacturing leadership, fostering succession planning, employee engagement, and leadership development.
- Maintain rigorous quality, food safety (if applicable), and regulatory standards, partnering with Compliance teams to address operational issues and audits.
- Champion workplace safety, ensuring OSHA compliance and promoting zero-incident culture.
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to monitor key operational metrics and provide regular performance updates to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or closely related area.
- Minimum 10 years in progressive manufacturing leadership roles with at least 5 years overseeing multiple sites.
- Experience managing multi-facility manufacturing operations in highly regulated settings.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, operational excellence, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Expertise in production planning, scheduling, capacity management, budgeting, and labor planning.
- Proficient with ERP systems, manufacturing software, advanced Microsoft Excel, and Power BI.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across diverse manufacturing locations.
- Must be 21 years or older.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
- Experience in cannabis, CPG, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, consumer products, automotive, or other high-volume manufacturing industries.
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt), Project Management Professional (PMP), or APICS CPIM/CSCP.
Physical and Travel Requirements
- Ability to spend extended time in manufacturing, production, or warehouse environments, regularly walking production floors and performing inspections.
- Capable of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Must use required PPE and comply with safety standards; exposure to noise, machinery, temperature changes, and allergens such as cannabis plant dust may occur.
- Working outside standard business hours and up to 15% travel to company sites, vendors, and industry events required.
Work Schedule
This full-time exempt position requires flexibility to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as the business demands. On-site presence is necessary for meetings and collaborative activities.
