Job description

About Wall Steel

Wall Steel is a family-owned company specializing in structural steel manufacturing since 1986, operating one of the largest fabrication plants in Ireland and the UK. Their 190,000 square foot facility in New Ross, Wexford is equipped for automated fabrication, producing up to 500 tonnes of structural steel weekly. The company offers detailing, manufacturing, and erection services, committed to delivering projects on time and within budget while upholding high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

Role Overview

The position is a full-time Quantity Surveyor based in Wexford. Responsibilities include overseeing procurement, preparing and managing cost plans and reports related to structural steel projects. The role entails precise measurement and valuation of work, commercial oversight of subcontractors and suppliers, and ensuring alignment with project budgets. The Quantity Surveyor will monitor budget progress, handle variations, produce interim and final accounts, and contribute to tender submissions with detailed cost breakdowns.

Collaboration is crucial, working closely with project managers, engineers, designers, and clients to offer commercial advice, reduce financial risks, and assist in decision-making. Occasionally, the role supports estimating teams with inquiries, bid management, and activities aimed at securing new projects.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Solid expertise in cost management, including cost control and reporting.
  • Ability to deliver clear, precise cost reports for both internal teams and clients.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or related disciplines.
  • Professional background in structural steel, civil engineering, or construction project environments is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with QS and construction software; skills in Autodesk products or Trimble Connect are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong numerical analysis, problem-solving capabilities, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams on site.
  • Understanding of construction contracts, procurement procedures, and European industry standards.
  • Competence in interpreting technical specifications, drawings, and build information to ensure timely project deliverables, client change management, and support for estimating tasks.
