Project Engineer, Operational Engineering

About the Role

Join Amazon's Projects team, dedicated to building world-class facilities that enable customers to find and purchase anything online. We seek highly capable and motivated professionals with a thorough understanding of the project life cycle, covering assessment, design and detailing, execution, and performance qualification stages. This role involves collaborating on site selection with Real Estate teams, ensuring statutory and legal compliance, enforcing project safety standards across design and execution, managing value for projects of varying scale, and overseeing technical projects including green field, brown field, and process improvement initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of multiple building formats, focussing on East India region.
• Manage establishment of new centers, capacity expansion, and facility relocations aligned with business needs.
• Drive initiatives like project standardization, energy conservation, and productivity improvement.
• Ensure timely, safe, and quality delivery with sound engineering practices, culminating in handover of new or expanded facilities.
• Participate in site visits and feasibility assessments along with the Real Estate Team.
• Finalize conceptual layouts, assessing operational requirements and preparing related scope of work documents and cost estimates for approvals.
• Select and manage Project Management Consultants and project resources.
• Collaborate with Procurement to assess and finalize vendors.
• Monitor material requirements, oversee onsite execution, ensure quality of work, and facilitate snag-free handover to Facilities Teams.
• Support launch preparations of sites nearing completion, maintaining strict adherence to budgets, safety norms, and project timelines.
• Prepare and present weekly progress reports highlighting project status.
• Complete projects with closure of commercial and administrative tasks in a timely manner.

Performance Metrics

• Ensure on-time, in-full (OTIF) project execution and delivery of facilities exceeding 95% success rate.
• Maintain strict budget compliance without cost overruns, achieving rates above 95%.
• Adhere to safety guidelines to achieve zero Lost Time Injuries (LTIs) across all projects.
• Comply with statutory and safety regulations in over 95% of projects.
• Deliver targeted project management initiatives completely and punctually.

Qualifications and Eligibility

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering discipline.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
