This specific opportunity is for a position within an independently owned and operated franchise or affiliate location.

Role Overview

As a Produce Clerk, you play a crucial role in ensuring customers can quickly find the fresh produce they seek. Keeping the department well-stocked and organized promotes an efficient and satisfying shopping experience, which helps foster customer loyalty. Comprehensive training will be provided.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to company procedures, standards, and policies in all situations.
  • Greet customers courteously and helpfully.
  • Provide superior customer service consistent with Safeway’s programs.
  • Stock produce and related products including frozen goods, perishables, and non-perishables on shelves.
  • Maintain and create merchandise displays that comply with Safeway’s guidelines.
  • Rotate stock to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
  • Handle loading and unloading of products for sales floor stocking.
  • Manage backroom organization and inventory control.
  • Operate a cash register as needed during busy periods.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Store Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • No prior experience is necessary; full training is provided.
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly and adapt in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Strong motivation and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and attitude.
  • Commitment to working safely and responsibly.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Specific to Alberta locations, availability on Sundays is required.

Physical Demands

  • Constant lifting of items up to 20 pounds.
  • Continuous reaching and gripping movements.
  • Frequent bending, walking, standing, twisting, pushing, or pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of heavier items between 20 and 50 pounds.
  • Intermittent use of computer and point-of-sale systems.
  • Occasional crouching, kneeling, or squatting during shifts.
