Role overview

HMP Erlestoke is hiring an Operational Support Grade (OSG) to help keep the prison operating safely and efficiently. This position sits within HMPPS and supports the everyday running of a busy custodial environment.

What the job involves

You will be part of a helpful team carrying out a broad mix of duties. The role includes security checks and searches at the gate, handling incoming deliveries, supervising visitors, and keeping an eye on phone use and CCTV. It combines desk-based tasks with active work such as lifting, carrying, and walking across the prison grounds to escort vehicles.

Pay and benefits

The salary for this role is £30,491. Alongside base pay, the post comes with training and development opportunities plus a range of Civil Service benefits.

Additional information

• Annual leave starts at 25 days on appointment and rises to 30 days after 10 years of service, calculated pro rata.
• You will also receive 9 days of bank, public and privilege holidays.
• There is access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service.

Prison officers have more direct contact with prisoners, while OSG contact is limited; however, some occasional interaction may occur depending on the prison.
