Role overview

TAFE Queensland is seeking a temporary full-time Principal Advisor, Educator Capability to join the Educational Quality team at the South Bank Campus. This appointment is available until 30 June 2027 unless otherwise determined. The role reports to the Director, Educational Quality and Capability.

The position plays a senior leadership role in strengthening educator capability across the organisation, supporting contemporary learning, teaching and assessment practice, and helping to build a future-focused vocational education and training workforce.

Key focus areas

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Educator Capability team and help embed innovative and contemporary learning, teaching and assessment practice across the organisation.
  • Develop and roll out new and existing learning and teaching programs that align with current and emerging practice, supported by governance and specialist advice aimed at continuous improvement.
  • Support new educators through coaching and professional learning, with the ability to deliver training and assessment under the Training and Assessment Training Package where needed to maintain organisational capability and compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Help drive transformation and cultural change by modelling organisational values and contributing to a positive safety culture.
  • Lead the creation, delivery and evaluation of educator capability and professional development programs that strengthen teaching practice and support a skilled, future-ready VET educator workforce.
  • Promote high-quality, innovative and inclusive teaching and assessment aligned to TAFE Queensland’s Educator Capability Framework and RTO compliance requirements.
  • Provide evidence-informed advice to senior leaders to support initiatives, projects and decision-making related to educator capability.
  • Oversee the governance and use of educational technologies and virtual learning so that online, blended and digital delivery improves teaching quality, assessment integrity and learner outcomes.
  • Manage the development, quality assurance and continuous improvement of professional development resources while meeting stakeholder needs accurately and on time.
  • Encourage a strong scholarly culture in learning and teaching by supporting communities of practice and evidence-based, reflective innovation.
  • Lead the Educator Capability team, including performance development and capability growth, to deliver outcomes aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Plan, track and assess educator capability initiatives using data and insights to support continuous improvement and reporting.
  • Participate in statewide initiatives and committees to ensure regional activity aligns with broader organisational strategy and priorities.

Selection criteria

  • Proven ability to provide strategic leadership in educator capability and professional learning, including setting direction and leading region-wide initiatives that improve educator capability, engagement and organisational performance.
  • Strong experience in governing and integrating educational technologies and digital delivery, with a focus on quality, consistency, innovation and assessment integrity across online, blended and digital models.
  • Demonstrated capacity to influence and sustain a culture of scholarship in learning and teaching, including leadership of communities of practice and encouragement of reflective, innovative and evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience managing a specialist team to achieve strategic outcomes through effective people management, performance development and capability uplift.
  • Commitment to organisational values and the maintenance of a strong safety culture.

  • TAE50211 Diploma of Training Design and Development

Highly regarded

  • A higher-level qualification in adult education or vocational education and training, such as a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education.
  • Extensive tertiary teaching experience, with at least 5 years as a minimum.
