PostgreSQL Database Administrator

Role Overview

The PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) will manage ongoing installation, upkeep, failure prevention, detection, and restoration of PostgreSQL database servers. The DBA is responsible for maintaining production database uptime and accessibility through proactive space management, database tuning, continuous monitoring, backups, recovery, configuration, and patch updates.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and manage PostgreSQL databases, including installation, patch application, and environment upgrades.
• Collaborate closely with business teams and application developers to address development, testing, and demonstration needs involving databases.
• Handle database design, installation, backup and recovery strategies, and configuration management across multiple engineering teams.
• Partner with the UNIX Database solutions team in Zurich to resolve incidents during Asia working hours and support other engineering and operational duties.
• Ensure adherence to ethical standards, compliance with laws, risk management protocols, and demonstrate integrity, honesty, due care, fairness, and ongoing skill development.

Technical Skills Required

• Strong experience in PostgreSQL database engineering and operations.
• Proficient in data modeling tools.
• Competence with UNIX/Linux administration and scripting.
• Expertise in database installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
• Skilled in backup and recovery techniques and failover practices.
• Experience utilizing ESX virtual machines and Kubernetes.

Preferred Additional Skills

• Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture standards.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
• Understanding of databases such as Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, and Microsoft SQL.
• Experience with Ansible and GitLab.
• Awareness of Systems Engineering Lifecycle methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision in complex data center environments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills involving storage, operating systems, patching, and networking.
• Effective communication abilities, adaptable to diverse and dynamic workplace settings.
