Job description
Job Responsibilities
- Manage vessel budgets related to food supplies and housekeeping purchases ensuring compliance with financial plans.
- Maintain effective communication between vessel captains, crew, and office staff to safeguard the safety and welfare of seafaring personnel and assets.
- Conduct detailed technical interviews for deck officer candidates to select appropriate crew members for vessels.
- Provide thorough briefings to masters, officers, and crew before boarding, clarifying their duties and company standards.
- Coordinate with Personnel Department on travel, crew changes, and other staffing concerns together with the vessel master, monitoring overlap days between crews.
- Ensure timely submission and review of deck and catering requisitions to maintain an efficient and cost-effective inventory onboard.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to guarantee prompt supply delivery and follow up on purchase requests to avoid operational disruptions, ensuring sufficient spare parts onboard.
- Monitor onboard bridge team performance regularly and conduct captain appraisals.
- Notify Fleet Superintendent about high-potential or underperforming crew members to address competence and performance as per company policies.
- Guarantee proper handover and familiarization processes for all ship staff on joining.
- Promote continuous health, safety, and wellbeing of the crew.
- Perform monthly onboard inspections covering the ship’s hull, cargo areas, deck machinery, and safety equipment.
- Be present on board during special offshore operations as needed.
- Liaise with Operations Department and vessel masters regarding certifications, safety gear, and lifting equipment.
- Collaborate with Engineering Superintendent and Port Engineer to prepare vessel repair specifications.
- Ensure strict adherence to IMCA guidelines and best industry practices concerning vessel dynamic positioning (DP) operations and equipment.
- Maintain DP and navigational equipment in a fully ready and operational condition for the fleet.
