About the Role
Visy Logistics is currently seeking a seasoned Operations Manager to lead its growing South Island Intermodal division, headquartered in Timaru with regular travel to Christchurch. This position blends hands-on operational management with strategic leadership oversight within a full-time, permanent role. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational excellence, delivering superior customer service, and meeting financial and performance objectives across the South Island network.
Role Responsibilities
- Hold full accountability for the Profit and Loss (P&L) of the South Island operations, including monthly forecasting, budgeting, and reporting on performance.
- Deliver insightful operational and financial reports regarding fleet, labor, and site efficiencies to senior management.
- Lead the management of fleet and labor operations to guarantee safe, efficient, and cost-conscious service delivery.
- Optimize labor resource allocation, managing both permanent staff and casual workers effectively.
- Monitor critical driver performance indicators, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective strategies.
- Maintain precise tracking of equipment, foster strong supplier partnerships, and promptly address operational challenges.
- Champion a proactive safety culture through rigorous compliance, proactive safety involvement, and injury management.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction levels.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven operational leadership experience within transportation, logistics, or fleet operations, especially within intermodal settings.
- Strong commercial understanding with hands-on experience managing budgets and P&L performance.
- In-depth knowledge of Code of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue regulations, load restraint, and mass management principles.
- Experience in containerized import/export operations and familiarity with port environments.
- Proficiency using SAP, Transport Management Systems (TMS), Container Chain, and CargoWise for planning, tracking, and performance management.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with an ability to build high-performing teams, foster growth, and cultivate a positive work culture.
