Job description

About One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund empowers 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine African countries, which collectively host two-thirds of the continent's farming population. The organization offers diverse support including quality farm inputs, tree seedlings, accessible financing, modern agronomic training, and additional agricultural services. Typically, farmers using this model experience a more than 35% increase in incomes and assets on supported land, alongside improved resilience. Their impressive team exceeds 9,000 full-time professionals from varied backgrounds.

Established in 2018, the Nigeria program operates from its headquarters in Minna, Niger state. It currently aids over 100,000 farmers throughout the state via multiple programs: inputs on credit ('Core'), inputs for cash purchases ('Retail'), and a free tree seedling distribution ('Agroforestry').

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff in Nigeria will spearhead the execution of the Country Director's strategic plans, enhancing overall organizational effectiveness nationwide. Positioned as a key strategic partner and operational leader, this role demands extensive cross-functional influence and responsibility for critical and high-risk projects impacting the entire program.

  • Manage and streamline strategic communications among the Country Director and senior leadership to ensure clarity, alignment, and full execution of decisions.
  • Build and maintain strategic external stakeholder relationships, including major donors and government partners, representing the Country Director directly.
  • Take full ownership of complex, cross-team projects from conception to successful implementation and integration.
  • Establish accountability systems and monitor progress on organization-wide priorities, providing performance reports and risk updates to executives.
  • Oversee operational efficiency of the Country Director’s office to maximize leadership focus on strategic priorities.
  • Develop and quality-check high-level executive documents, presentations, and briefing materials for both internal governance and external interactions.
  • Coordinate preparation and follow-up for Board and leadership meetings, handling agendas and ensuring timely execution of decisions.
  • Manage incoming communications and requests, prioritizing and maintaining confidentiality.

  • At least 5 years of experience combining strategic support, project management, and executive operations, ideally from consulting, corporate strategy, business operations in high-growth contexts, social enterprises, or international development.
