Position Overview

This role is a fixed-term, 12-month position focused on supporting research and consultancy efforts to sustainably manage New Zealand's marine ecosystems. You'll work closely with the Fisheries and Marine Ecology team providing technical assistance across various fisheries, ecological, and biosecurity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fisheries monitoring duties, particularly sampling landings at commercial pack houses.
  • Process biological samples gathered during ecological field investigations.
  • Oversee data handling tasks including processing, compiling, validation, databasing, and archiving after collection.
  • Support Recreational Fisheries survey coordination and data management activities.
  • Assist with biosecurity surveys and other marine ecology projects.

  • Possess a degree in marine sciences with solid understanding of New Zealand's marine environment.
