About Earth Sciences New Zealand

Position Overview
This role is a fixed-term, 12-month position focused on supporting research and consultancy efforts to sustainably manage New Zealand's marine ecosystems. You'll work closely with the Fisheries and Marine Ecology team providing technical assistance across various fisheries, ecological, and biosecurity initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fisheries monitoring duties, particularly sampling landings at commercial pack houses.
- Process biological samples gathered during ecological field investigations.
- Oversee data handling tasks including processing, compiling, validation, databasing, and archiving after collection.
- Support Recreational Fisheries survey coordination and data management activities.
- Assist with biosecurity surveys and other marine ecology projects.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a degree in marine sciences with solid understanding of New Zealand's marine environment.
- Demonstrate strong practical skills and capability to work effectively in the field; boating experience is advantageous.
- Experience in laboratory work and proficiency with various computing, video, and data management tools.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, adaptability in dynamic settings, and a proactive problem-solving attitude.
