Job description
Job Overview
The Laundry Aide plays a vital role in managing the collection, sorting, washing, mending, and delivery of residents' laundry items in a senior care facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with collecting and sorting residents' soiled clothing and linens, including pre-treating stains.
- Operate washers and dryers ensuring correct settings and adequate chemical supply levels.
- Inspect laundry items to identify and carry out necessary repairs such as fixing rips, tears, and replacing buttons.
- Fold, sort, stack, and iron linens and clothing as needed.
- Deliver cleaned linens and clothing to designated areas within the facility.
- Follow all facility policies and safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Complete required documentation in accordance with job protocols.
- Respect and promote residents' rights and responsibilities throughout daily duties.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions and staff meetings to stay informed on facility updates and enhance service delivery.
- Take part in quality improvement initiatives to support facility standards.
- Work responsibly with vulnerable adult residents, maintaining trust and adhering to ethical standards.
- Uphold the organization’s ethical values and code of conduct at all times.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Experience or familiarity with commercial laundry processes and ability to meet physical job demands.
- Capability to follow instructions accurately and provide constructive feedback daily.
- Proficiency in standard sewing and mending techniques.
- Understanding of proper linen care and stain removal practices.
- Second language skills considered an asset.
- Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check (within six months) including a Criminal Background Check or be willing to obtain one.
