About the Role

The Animal Education and Control unit at Hamilton City Council is committed to fostering responsible dog ownership and animal welfare. Our team handles a range of dogs for various reasons, striving to reunite them with their owners when possible, and managing a rewarding adoption programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing routine feeding, exercise, and daily care for impounded animals.
• Monitoring and assessing animal health, behaviour, and wellbeing.
• Maintaining hygienic, secure, and clean kennel facilities.
• Supporting animal adoptions and facilitating interactions between owners and pets.
• Delivering compassionate and professional customer service.
• Updating and managing animal records and database systems.
• Collaborating with veterinarians and animal welfare professionals when needed.

Required Skills and Experience

• A minimum of two years’ experience working directly with dogs or other animals.
• Possession of an Animal Care Certificate or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Confidence in handling a variety of animal behaviours and temperaments.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and foster positive relationships.
• Proficient computer literacy and data entry capability.
• A proactive attitude with a genuine commitment to animal welfare.

Additional Details

The role involves working 40 hours per week on a roster system to cover 365 days annually, including weekends.

While a Veterinary Nursing qualification is favorable, it is not mandatory.
