Overview
The Intermediate IT Systems Administrator role involves delivering practical and proactive IT support for both office and field teams. This position focuses on maintaining and enhancing JEN COL Construction's IT systems, networks, Microsoft 365 environment, business applications, reporting tools, and technology workflows.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive understanding of Windows 11 OS
- Experience in frontline IT support across office and field-based users
- Advanced skills in network system maintenance and management
- Familiarity with Windows Server 2019, including DHCP, DNS, Active Directory
- Expertise in server architecture, including print servers, virtual servers, backup services, DaaS, and Group Policy
- Strong Office 365 administration knowledge covering securities, Exchange, Entra, Intune, Purview, AD Sync, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Power Platform
- Proficient in SQL Server 2012+ with maintenance, backup, and administrative experience (knowledge of Sage and Viewpoint products is beneficial)
- Experienced in query-based software like Crystal Reports, PowerBI, and SQL
- Competent with VPNs, firewalls, encryption, and network security technologies
- Understanding of backup and disaster recovery systems
- Installation and configuration of network hardware including firewalls, switches, routers using VLAN, QoS
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS mobile OS
- Strong troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve IT issues for hardware, software, and business applications
- Basic understanding of programming concepts and software development lifecycles
- Experience with inventory management procedures
- Excellent time management and prioritization aptitude in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision
- Effective communication, sound judgment, and proactive approach to continuous learning
- Able to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users
- Organized, self-driven, adaptable to shifting priorities
- Demonstrated initiative in problem-solving and escalation
Education and Certifications
- Diploma or degree in IT or a relevant combination of education and experience
- Preferably holds A+ certification or Microsoft Administrator certification track
- Network+ certification is an asset
- Valid driver’s license required
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in IT support, systems administration, or business application support
- Experience with ERP or business systems preferred; Viewpoint Vista knowledge is a plus
- Familiarity with ITIL, LEAN, or similar continuous improvement methodologies advantageous
Key Responsibilities
- Primary IT contact for user assistance, system administration, application support, and reporting
- Provide first-level support for hardware, software, Microsoft 365, printers, mobile devices, connectivity, and access issues
- Investigate problems, research solutions, liaise with vendors, and guide employees
- Troubleshoot and support standard business applications, manage access changes, documentation, and escalation
- Develop and maintain user guides, IT documentation, and repeatable support procedures to minimize recurring issues
- Resolve end-user hardware and software issues spanning PCs, peripherals, mobile devices, network and printers
- Manage the entire Microsoft 365 environment and associated administrative tools
- Conduct server software and firmware updates
- Install and maintain network equipment and server hardware
- Manage hardware and software installs for computers, Windows 11, printers, mobile routers, onsite and office setups
- Handle user access and security roles across Viewpoint, Sage, Microsoft 365, and cloud applications
- Execute daily backups ensuring recovery readiness and data integrity
- Monitor systems to confirm proper operation of processes
- Coordinate with vendors for equipment maintenance and warranty management
- Oversee IT inventory audits for software licenses and hardware
- Advise management on software and system upgrades or potential risks
- Prepare and present status reports to senior management
- Maintain data confidentiality and network security
- Conduct end-user training and produce training materials, policies, and procedures
- Serve as a technical resource for IT and cross-departmental technology projects
- Support ERP and business system administration, testing, and troubleshooting, focusing on Viewpoint Vista and Sage products
- Handle reporting requirements using SQL, Crystal Reports, Power BI, Excel, or native tools
- Collaborate with departments to diagnose recurring system issues and recommend enhancements
- Stay updated on technology trends and provide improvement recommendations
- Track and report assigned project progress to IT management
- Evaluate and recommend innovative technologies including automation, AI, and productivity tools
- Support technology initiatives to improve operational efficiency and decision-making
- Facilitate testing, documentation, training, and adoption for new systems
- Assist in adopting emerging technology platforms for AI, automation, and reporting solutions
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Office setting with occasional construction site visits involving typical industry hazards
- Capability to crouch, crawl, work in confined spaces or at heights
- Manual dexterity required for computer and peripheral operation
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs
- Periodic driving of company vehicles
