Role overview
University IT Services is recruiting three UWE student workers to join the IT Campus Support team as IT Support Assistants. This is paid, campus-based work experience at Frenchay, with the role focused on supporting teaching spaces and student-facing technology during live sessions.
Main duties
- Act fast on IT and audio-visual faults in teaching rooms while classes are running, and work to get services restored.
- Carry out preventative maintenance on student printers.
- Complete IT and AV room checks across teaching spaces.
Skills and experience
Previous hands-on exposure to IT and audio-visual equipment would be helpful, but it is not essential. Strong customer service ability is especially important because the post involves regular face-to-face interaction. Successful applicants will receive a full induction and training before starting.
Working pattern
The contract is on campus at Frenchay and is term-time only, covering semester 01 and semester 02 for a total of 26 weeks across two 13-week blocks. There may also be an additional 4 weeks of work available at the end of semester 2 if the person is available and there is business need.
There are two shift options: mornings from 07:00 to 10:00, or early evenings from 16:30 to 19:30. Each shift is 3 hours long, Monday to Friday, giving 15 hours per week in total. Fewer hours may be considered to accommodate teaching commitments, although the start and finish times themselves are fixed. A rota will be arranged once the team is in place so that staff can work a mix of mornings and evenings around their studies.
Pay and leave
The hourly rate is £13.45, which is C-grade spine point 10. Holidays are calculated pro rata in line with UWE terms.
Eligibility and application
This opportunity is open only to current UWE students. Interested candidates should contact the Temporary Staff Unit first or complete the application form. Early applications are encouraged because the advert may close once suitable candidates have been identified. The closing date is 09 August 2026. Applicants should submit a CV and explain how their experience meets the essential and desirable criteria in the Person Specification, using specific examples where possible. Application outcomes will be sent by email after shortlisting.
