Role summary
The HSSE Officer will lead Health, Safety, Security and Environment activities and help ensure that the organization remains compliant with all relevant HSSE regulations. The role is focused on maintaining a workplace where employees are protected from hazards, risks, and injury.
Responsibilities
- Implement, monitor, and continuously improve HSSE policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and make sure they are communicated clearly and kept up to date.
- Inspect work areas and staff practices to spot unsafe conditions or non-compliance, including failures to use protective equipment, and oversee related installations, maintenance, and substance disposal.
- Make sure statutory duties related to workplace health, safety, and welfare are fulfilled, including required training and reporting obligations.
- Plan and coordinate occupational health and safety training for employees and management.
- Document and investigate incidents, identify root causes, and manage workers’ compensation claims where applicable.
- Recognize workplace hazards, classify them appropriately, determine control measures, and follow through on corrective actions.
- Update accident investigation records with full details, including incident description, losses, immediate causes, root causes, recommendations, and follow-up actions.
- Prepare incident and HSSE reports and present statistical data to senior management.
- Join project management meetings when needed and report on safety and health matters relevant to the project.
- Carry out other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications in environmental management or safety, such as NEBOSH or ISO 14001, are an advantage.
