House Parent / Hostel Warden

Overview

Cochin International School seeks a committed, lively, and reliable House Parent to serve as a residential guardian and mentor within our boarding community. This role involves being a trusted adult figure for students, supporting their overall wellbeing, fostering a positive house culture, and ensuring the residential experience feels like home.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consistent pastoral care to support students’ physical, emotional, and mental health within the boarding house.
• Encourage an inclusive and respectful atmosphere that embraces the cultural diversity of an international student population.
• Organize and lead meaningful house activities that promote community spirit, friendships, and personal development outside the classroom setting.
• Enforce house rules and boarding policies with fairness and empathy, acting as a role model and support system.
• Collaborate with the Head of Boarding and pastoral team to address student welfare concerns, resolve conflicts, and appropriately escalate serious issues.
• Keep detailed wellbeing records and maintain clear communication with parents, teachers, and school leaders.
• Assist students in navigating challenges of boarding life such as homesickness, cultural adaptation, and separation from family.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related disciplines.
• Previous experience working with youth in boarding, residential, or pastoral care environments is essential; international school exposure is advantageous.
• Preparedness to reside on or near school campus and work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and school vacations as needed.
• Excellent skills in communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal relations, with sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Organized, composed under stress, and capable of balancing firmness with warmth.
