Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced GIS Technician to support hydraulics and stormwater infrastructure work in the UAE, with Abu Dhabi as the preferred location. This role focuses on building, maintaining, and analysing spatial datasets that support drainage, stormwater, and broader infrastructure planning. Strong practical experience in ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS, DEM handling, catchment delineation, and spatial data management is important. Familiarity with UAE or Abu Dhabi GIS requirements will be considered an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and organise GIS datasets used in hydraulics and stormwater network projects.
- Carry out catchment and watershed delineation using DEMs and other geospatial inputs.
- Work with Digital Elevation Models to support hydraulic and drainage analysis.
- Create, update, and manage geodatabases while preserving data accuracy and consistency.
- Perform spatial analysis and prepare maps, layouts, and technical documentation.
- Assist engineering teams with GIS-based support for stormwater, drainage, and infrastructure planning.
- Combine geospatial information from different sources and keep spatial records current and reliable.
- Ensure all outputs align with project specifications and UAE/Abu Dhabi GIS standards.
- Work with cross-functional teams to provide GIS input across the full project lifecycle.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a similar field.
- Between 3 and 7 years of GIS experience, ideally in infrastructure, hydraulics, or stormwater-related work.
- Practical proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and/or QGIS.
- Hands-on capability in catchment delineation, DEM processing, terrain analysis, spatial data management, geodatabases, mapping, and spatial analysis.
- Clear understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, and common geospatial file formats.
- Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and communication skills.
- Exposure to UAE or Abu Dhabi GIS standards and spatial data requirements is preferred.
- Background supporting drainage, flood, utilities, or stormwater network projects is preferred.
- Knowledge of ESRI geodatabases, ModelBuilder, or Python scripting is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with hydraulic modelling workflows is desirable.
