Job description

Role Overview

Dorset Council invites applications for full-time Family Workers at Grade 8 / Level 1 to join the East and Purbeck Locality teams, located in Ferndown and Wareham. Applicants should express a preference for their desired locality or indicate openness for either location.

The Family Workers will provide support to children and families at various stages, ranging from Early Help through Child Protection. Responsibilities include direct engagement with children and families, contributing to multi-agency intervention plans, and improving outcomes and prospects for young people in Dorset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, and outreach sessions.
  • Engage directly with children, young people, parents, and families within homes and community settings.
  • Organize and participate in team meetings focused on family support.
  • Utilize case management software, databases, and related tools as directed.
  • Offer information, advice, and guidance to children, young people, and their families.
  • Collaborate with social workers and other professionals on shared cases.
  • Evaluate parenting capabilities and assist in enhancing emotional and physical caregiving skills through practical activities.
  • Provide parenting and behavior management assistance.
  • Support families involved in statutory child protection procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of local service provisions and resources.
  • Coach and mentor families, empowering them to make sustainable positive changes.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Essential attributes include prior experience working with children, and preferably families, resilience, a dedicated drive to create a positive impact, and strong ICT and record-keeping proficiency.

The role entails significant travel; candidates must have access to a vehicle or suitable transport. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory due to work involving children or vulnerable adults.
