Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer to join our team at Rotana Hotels in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This role demands a passionate individual skilled in maintaining compliance with health, safety, and food safety standards while offering exceptional service. The successful candidate will lead efforts ensuring adherence to HACCP, ISO standards, and local and international regulatory requirements within a hospitality setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish, implement, and uphold the EHS and food safety management systems following HACCP/ISO and regulatory standards.
- Deliver comprehensive reports on EHS and food safety performance to senior management, including improvement recommendations.
- Lead or contribute to audits related to EHS, HACCP, ISO, sustainability, and occupational health and safety management systems; guide compliance and corrective actions.
- Define audit criteria to enforce compliance with food safety, occupational safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage audit outcomes by analyzing trends, communicating results, and setting action plans to sustain compliance with corporate and regulatory mandates.
- Participate in incident investigations, identify root causes, communicate findings, and implement corrective measures to avoid recurrence.
- Stay updated on changes in sustainability, health and safety, and food safety laws, adapting policies and documentation accordingly.
- Drive continual improvement by collecting, analyzing, and communicating EHS objectives and progress, coordinating with the EHS committee.
- Conduct regular employee training sessions on EHS and food safety policies and procedures.
- Perform ongoing inspections to monitor EHS and food safety adherence and enforce corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure that suppliers and contractors comply with established EHS and food safety standards through audits and regular communication.
- Maintain control over documents such as manuals, policies, procedures, and logs related to EHSMS and food safety, including report management.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to support corporate social responsibility initiatives benefiting the community and environment.
- Oversee the deployment and tracking of Rotana Earth programs within the hotel.
- Operate safely and sustainably to safeguard the health and safety of guests and employees while protecting the environment.
- Adhere strictly to the hotel’s environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
- Develop, update, and review Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Lead OHSMS implementation and monitor system effectiveness through inspections, meetings, and reviews alongside department heads and operational staff.
- Engage actively in periodic performance reviews and assist in setting EHS goals and objectives.
- Provide necessary OHS training to new employees tailored to their job roles.
- Report OHSMS performance metrics to senior management and relevant regulatory bodies.
- Ensure continual updating, dissemination, and enforcement of legal requirements related to occupational safety and health within the property.
- Plan and execute audits and inspections to verify compliance with OHS regulations.
- Oversee audit communications and create action plans to maintain OHS regulatory compliance.
- Conduct periodic risk assessments across all hotel departments in collaboration with stakeholders and implement specific risk control strategies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
- Between two to three years’ experience in EHS, Food Safety, or Sustainability roles within hospitality or comparably high-risk operational environments.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 22000, ISO 45001, HACCP, or Lead Auditor qualifications are advantageous.
- Proficiency in computer use and strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Arabic.
- Comprehensive understanding of hotel operations and safety management systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive, approachable, and engaging demeanor.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, multicultural environment with guests and team members.
