Engineering Intern

About the Role

Gerdau North America is looking for a student to join its Engineering team as an intern at the Whitby Metals Recycling site. The role is designed for someone who wants practical exposure in a large industrial environment and is eager to build a career through hands-on learning, collaboration, and continuous development.

Internship Tenure

The internship is intended to begin as soon as possible and continue for 12 to 16 months.

What You Will Do

• Provide technical support and coordination for operating and capital expenditure activities within the engineering department.
• Work under the guidance of a senior engineering team member on assigned tasks and project work.
• Contribute to project assessment, technical analysis, oversight, and documentation.
• Enter and maintain project information in EPM and MS Project.
• Develop and improve engineering procedures and methods.
• Collect, process, and interpret samples and technical data.
• Help introduce new technologies and support the adoption of best practices.
• Assist with training and developing technical operations.
• Support process improvement initiatives where needed.
• Take part in annual action plan development and technical committee benchmarking.
• Help coordinate approved projects across locations in Canada and the United States.
• Communicate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to support project execution.
• Contribute to technical studies that support capital investment decisions.
• Prepare and complete blueprints and drawings using AutoCAD for additions, installations, maintenance, and repairs.
• Create sketches and layout drawings for equipment and machinery modifications.
• Review specifications and drawings for accuracy on major projects involving facility design and construction.
