About the Role
This position sits within Thales’ Airspace Mobility Solutions business in Singapore and supports the creation of an Engineering Environment (E2) capability for the AMS Centre of Competence. The role works closely with the E2 team in Australia and is focused on evolving engineering tools and platforms toward cloud-based delivery while helping the organisation become more data-driven.
Thales is a global technology company serving governments, institutions, and enterprises with solutions in areas such as aerospace, cybersecurity, digital identity, quantum applications, AI, and 6G. In Singapore, the company has operated since 1973 and employs around 2,000 people across three local sites, supporting aerospace, defence and security, and digital identity/cybersecurity work.
Business Context
The Airspace Mobility Solutions unit is part of the Global Business Unit Land and Air Systems and provides air traffic management, unmanned traffic management, security, and digital aviation products for commercial and defence customers. The business manages 11% of global airspace and generates more than 500 million euros in revenue worldwide. In Singapore, it is responsible for supporting key ATM systems including TopSKY-ATC(HE) and LORADS-III.
What the Role Will Do
The Product Owner is responsible for shaping and sequencing the E2 product backlog, aligning delivery with business priorities, and enabling the team to deliver high-quality engineering environment capabilities. The role also supports operational needs, platform modernisation, cloud migration, and broader engineering transformation across AMS and SIAM.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure engineering environment capabilities are delivered to support engineering disciplines and projects.
- Provide the appropriate level of support for RUN operations across on-premises and cloud-based engineering factories, backed by a defined service level agreement.
- Plan, estimate, and coordinate BUILD work in line with business goals and priorities.
- Work with IS/IT, ECC teams for each country/site, and TDF to deploy, configure, and administer the networks, environments, and tools used for engineering work, while staying aligned with local security requirements.
- Oversee the management of commercial and open-source software, along with licences, for development tooling environments in accordance with AMS engineering headquarters.
- Partner with the AMS Engineering Environment Manager APAC to collect local requirements and help shape the E2 strategy and product roadmap.
- Assess value, build business cases, and prioritise features, stories, and themes according to product strategy.
- Estimate and organise the feature backlog and development work for the product.
- Remove or reduce blockers and risks that could affect release or sprint outcomes.
- Lead product release planning and set expectations for new functionality delivery.
- Contribute to process, practice, and tooling communities across the group to strengthen knowledge sharing and reuse.
- Support co-engineering activities with system, software, hardware, and infrastructure disciplines, and run user demonstrations to gather direct feedback.
- Assist projects migrating to newer E2 solutions.
Main Challenges
- Shifting teams and stakeholders toward agile ways of working.
- Updating platforms and processes to support cloud adoption and migration.
- Keeping platforms secure and compliant with security requirements.
- Selecting and sequencing features so they remain aligned with business objectives.
- Communicating clearly with stakeholders, team members, and customers.
- Managing change and keeping the roadmap current.
- Measuring progress and outcomes through appropriate metrics.
- Keeping the product backlog structured, realistic, and correctly ordered.
- Staying current on industry developments, customer needs, group initiatives, and new technologies.
Required Experience and Knowledge
A degree in engineering, information technology, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate should have experience in a large international organisation and in complex project environments. Strong familiarity with agile culture and with Scrum, Kanban, and Lean practices is important, along with knowledge of software engineering environments hosted in the cloud.
Desirable Experience
Additional value will come from experience in agile software development, cloud networking, and cybersecurity concepts such as risk assessment, threat modelling, cyber threats, and best practices.
General Requirements
- Help maintain a positive and collaborative workplace by reflecting the company’s core values.
- Support diversity and inclusion efforts and take part in initiatives that advance diversity goals.
- Promote continuous improvement as a working culture.
- Encourage accountability, transparency, and curiosity.
- Follow all occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and work practices to reduce risk to people and the environment.
- Comply with all other applicable company policies and procedures.
Workplace Values
Thales emphasises respect, trust, collaboration, and passion, and aims to provide a supportive environment where people can do meaningful work on technologies that contribute to a safer, greener, and more inclusive world.
