Director of Arts and Cultural Programs

Position Overview

The Director will lead the Puerto Rican Arts and Culture Center (PRACC) and Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA), guiding all artistic, administrative, and financial facets of the center. This leadership role is pivotal in defining the center's artistic character, promoting community involvement, and securing sustainability for the future.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, innovative leader devoted to visual arts and cultural enrichment focused on Puerto Rican heritage. Responsibilities encompass strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and managing diverse operations including exhibitions, educational initiatives, fundraising, and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and execute the center's artistic vision and strategic direction alongside the Board of Trustees and staff.
• Act as the center’s chief representative to the public, media, donors, and arts sector.
• Promote an inclusive workplace that attracts and supports a diverse team and encourages collaboration.
• Lead the design and delivery of dynamic exhibitions, educational programs, and community projects within visual arts.
• Manage or directly curate exhibitions that support the center’s mission and engage diverse audiences.
• Develop artistic and research initiatives that connect the center with local, national, and global artistic networks.
• Coordinate with the school district’s Fabrication Lab to align projects and exhibits.
• Direct fundraising initiatives and oversee financial management, including budgeting, donor relations, and performance reporting.
• Supervise recruitment, training, mentorship, and evaluation of teaching and support staff.
• Maintain strong governance by supporting the Board of Trustees in resource mobilization and institutional oversight.
• Build and sustain relationships within the local arts community and tailor outreach programs for varied audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in a related discipline.
• Between 5 to 7 years of leadership experience in a comparable institution, including strategic planning, program management, fundraising, and fiscal oversight.
• Knowledge of Puerto Rican and regional art history strongly preferred.
• Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with success in cultivating relationships across diverse groups.
• Experience working with varied populations is advantageous.
• Fluency in Spanish and English is highly desirable.
• Strong commitment to the center’s mission and expertise in financial administration are essential.
• Technical production and installation experience is a plus, along with adaptability.

Terms and Benefits

This is a twelve-month contracted full-time position. The salary range is $70,000 to $85,000 annually, with the final salary, work hours, and employment year determined by the Board in consultation with the Lead Person.

Evaluation

Performance reviews will be conducted annually in accordance with state statutes and Board guidelines.

Reporting

The Director reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer.
