Job Overview and Responsibilities
This role involves deployment, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting within data center infrastructure and enterprise IT systems. Key duties include using fiber optic testing equipment such as OTDR, LSPM, BER, OSA, and others for fiber testing, cleaning, and reporting. The candidate will provision and install cables or optics for new circuits, manage physical cabling including fiber, copper and power, and assist network/server teams with rack mounting and cable installations. Additional tasks involve labeling, patching, asset tagging, and updating IT ticket management systems with activity records, coordinating times with stakeholders.
Technical and Break-Fix Tasks
- Perform fiber testing and fault identification using OTDR, LSPM, VFL, along with cleaning and replacing faulty fiber optic cables.
- Install loopbacks and conduct Optical Spectrum Analysis, BER testing, and MPO fiber testing.
- Handle media insertion/removal, component replacement, fault diagnosis, and coordinate RMA processing.
- Configure remote access, basic storage array settings, and replace defective cables.
- Reboot network and storage devices, handle tape management and routine maintenance.
- Provide loop-back cables for remote circuit tests, re-seat or replace hardware components.
- Power cycle equipment, run diagnostics and conduct full unit replacements as necessary.
Deployment and Configuration Activities
- Install and configure servers (physical and virtual), storage, backup devices, and server/router appliances.
- Work with hyper-converged infrastructure and tape storage units.
- Manage power distribution units up to 3KVA, UPS systems, grounding, HVAC support.
- Handle network switches, SAN fabric switches, KVM units, WAN optimization gear.
- Support configuration of firewalls, wireless access points, routers, and cable management with remote assistance.
Experience and Skills Required
- 5 to 8 years of experience in data center or enterprise IT infrastructure roles.
- At least 3 years' experience in server provisioning, troubleshooting, and testing with proficiency in Linux/CLI interfaces on HP, Dell, or IBM hardware.
- Minimum 3 years experience in fiber optic cabling and testing including OTDR, LSPM, BER, OSA, traffic detection and low-voltage AC/DC power and Ethernet cabling installation and maintenance.
