Data Scientist

About the Role

FlexEnergi, a subsidiary of Accurant International, is seeking a skilled Data Scientist to spearhead forecasting and optimization initiatives within its platform. This fully remote position based in the United States involves designing, building, and integrating quantitative models that are core to our virtual power plant (VPP) systems. Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering, the role entails broad individual ownership across quantitative model development, deployment, and system integration, directly influencing product performance and operational workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain forecasting and optimization models integral to core product workflows.
• Model behavior of assets including weather effects and behind-the-meter resources.
• Convert operational and business needs into robust quantitative frameworks and production systems.
• Manage the entire lifecycle of quantitative solutions including data ingestion, pipeline construction, schema design, system interface definition, deployment, monitoring, and reliability assurance.
• Develop and apply best practices for model development, validation, monitoring, and operational robustness.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to define data contracts, system boundaries, and interfaces facilitating reliable quantitative services.
• Provide expert technical leadership and guidance on quantitative methodologies throughout the organization.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in data science, applied statistics, quantitative engineering, or similar disciplines.
• Hands-on experience in building electric load forecasting models.
• Strong grasp of constraint programming and multi-objective optimization for real-time systems.
• Proven ability to create and implement optimization models in energy and capacity markets.
• Background in time-series analysis and regression modeling techniques.
• Demonstrated experience deploying and maintaining models in production environments.
• Adept at working with complex, variable real-world data and building supporting infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Python or comparable programming languages.
• Capacity to operate independently making informed technical decisions.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and virtual power plants (VPP).
• Familiarity with US energy and capacity market operations.
• Knowledge of Bayesian modeling techniques.
• Understanding of distribution grid topology and operational constraints of batteries, electric vehicles, and large commercial buildings.

• Annual salary range from $120,000 to $150,000 USD.
