About The Role
Join Alignerr as a Data Scientist to leverage your expertise in machine learning, statistical inference, and data engineering to improve next-generation AI systems. This position involves challenging, auditing, and refining advanced AI models by uncovering their weaknesses, correcting errors in their reasoning, and contributing to the creation of AI that truly understands scientific concepts underpinning the code. This is a contract role with a fully remote and flexible schedule designed for candidates holding or pursuing a Masters or PhD degree.
Responsibilities
- Develop complex, domain-informed data science challenges including hyperparameter tuning, Bayesian methods, cross-validation, and dimensionality reduction to thoroughly test cutting-edge AI models.
- Create accurate, detailed solutions featuring Python/R scripts, SQL queries, and mathematical proofs to serve as authoritative answers.
- Review AI-generated outputs for correctness, computational efficiency, and methodological rigor using libraries like Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
- Detect and report logical errors in model reasoning such as data leakage, overfitting, improper management of imbalanced data, and faulty statistical interpretations, providing structured feedback to enhance AI performance.
- Manage assignments independently and asynchronously, allowing maximum flexibility in work hours and location.
Requirements
- Masters or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field emphasizing data analysis.
- Strong foundation in data science principles including supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, statistical inference, and model assessment.
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and ML frameworks such as Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
- Excellent ability to articulate sophisticated algorithmic and statistical concepts precisely in writing.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a keen eye for detecting syntax mistakes, mathematical errors, and incorrect statistical conclusions.
- Strong self-management skills and reliability when performing independent work.
- No previous AI data annotation or training experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with big data platforms like Spark or Hadoop.
- Background in natural language processing or evaluation of large AI models.
- Knowledge of MLOps, including CI/CD pipelines and production data science environments.
- Prior involvement in data annotation, quality assurance, or evaluation processes.
