Data Migration Specialist

About the Role

Join EY as a Data Migration Specialist at the Senior Consultant level where you will be pivotal in delivering data migration projects for clients. Your expertise will contribute to designing and executing data migration strategies, ensuring data quality, governance, and successful transitions. This role involves collaborating closely within delivery teams and with stakeholders to align outcomes with business goals and compliance standards.

This position is ideally based in Wellington but candidates in Auckland are also encouraged to apply. Flexible working arrangements with reduced hours may be available upon discussion.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in full lifecycle delivery of data migration projects including discovery, planning, execution, reconciliation, and post-migration tasks.
• Support the creation and application of data migration methodologies and key deliverables throughout all project phases.
• Convert business and functional requirements into detailed data migration outputs such as mappings and transformation logic.
• Help design and document migration workflows, processes, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with senior team members to utilize suitable migration patterns, tools, and reconciliation methods.
• Engage with business and technical stakeholders to enhance data governance, ownership, and quality measures.
• Conduct data analysis for quality assessment, issue identification, and support remediation efforts.
• Ensure adherence to data privacy, regulatory, and security standards during migration activities.
• Report regularly on project progress, risks, and issues to leadership.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
• Assist in developing reusable templates and migration assets to accelerate future projects.
• Stay updated on the latest trends, tools, and best practices in data migration and management.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience in supporting end-to-end data migration projects covering planning, execution, and reconciliation.
• Knowledge of data migration design principles, including ETL/ELT processes and tools.
• Familiarity with modern data platforms and analytic tools such as Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Python, and Power BI.
• Understanding of data governance concepts like data quality, ownership, and controls.
• Ability to analyze datasets, identify quality issues, and assist in remediation strategies.
• Experience documenting data mappings, workflows, and migration processes.
• Comfort with ETL/ELT tools and data processing frameworks.
• Strong communication capabilities to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• High attention to detail focused on data accuracy and integrity.
• Capability to manage tasks and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Exposure to cloud-based data solutions and platforms is advantageous.
