Data Engineer

Overview

VetsEZ is hiring a Data Engineer for a fully remote role supporting a major federal government healthcare project. The position centers on building, improving, and sustaining scalable data systems that power healthcare operations, analytics, reporting, and informed decision-making.

You will join a collaborative team to create and tune data pipelines, connect information from different systems, and support cloud-based data platforms. This opportunity is suited to a practical data professional who has worked on ETL/ELT development, large data sets, and secure, dependable solutions for mission-critical healthcare environments.

The selected candidate must live in the continental United States.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and support scalable data pipelines and ETL workflows.
• Implement and fine-tune data solutions in Azure cloud environments, including Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory.
• Bring together data from multiple systems using APIs and other integration approaches.
• Create and maintain analytics and reporting outputs with Power BI.
• Protect data quality, consistency, security, and system performance across data platforms.
• Work closely with stakeholders to understand needs and deliver data solutions for healthcare and VA-related initiatives.
• Use Agile practices and tools such as Jira to organize and monitor development work.
• Handle additional duties as required to help the team meet project goals and keep delivery on track.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
• At least 4 years of experience building, maintaining, and supporting data engineering solutions in enterprise data and analytics settings.
• Practical experience with Python, Spark, SQL, ETL workflows, and data warehousing tools and techniques.
• Hands-on exposure to GitHub, data integration, and analytics solution development.
• Background supporting data analytics work in enterprise IT environments.
• Experience working on Federal government programs and consulting engagements.
• Comfort using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Strong planning, analysis, and stakeholder coordination skills, plus the ability to juggle several priorities in a fast-moving environment.
• Ability to obtain and keep a Public Trust clearance.

Additional qualifications

• Experience supporting healthcare organizations, federal agencies, or Veterans Affairs (VA) programs.
• Familiarity with VA technologies and platforms such as CX Insights, Lighthouse APIs, Medallia, or comparable veteran-facing systems.
• Experience connecting enterprise applications and data sources through APIs and other system integration methods.
• Understanding of Azure cloud-native services and modern data platform design.
• Experience using Jira or similar Agile collaboration and project-tracking tools.
• Ability to complete fingerprinting at a government facility and pass a background check.
