About the role

Datacentre220 is seeking an experienced Data Centre Engineer to support a high-availability facility in Auckland’s CBD. The site is 100% locally owned and serves technology, telecommunications, SaaS, and other enterprise customers that rely on dependable digital infrastructure. This position is hands-on and suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving, mission-critical environment where uptime, safety, and operational quality are essential.

Data centres are expanding rapidly as demand grows from AI, cloud services, streaming, gaming, and global connectivity. In this role, you will help maintain the power, cooling, and support systems that keep services running around the clock.

What you will do

  • Run and maintain the electrical and mechanical systems that keep the data centre operating.
  • Monitor and optimise power, cooling, and environmental systems to support maximum uptime.
  • Provide remote support and on-site technical assistance to customers in New Zealand and overseas.
  • Work with vendors, contractors, and maintenance partners to ensure best-practice operations.
  • Support infrastructure enhancements, capacity growth, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Contribute to a team culture focused on safety, reliability, and collaboration.

What we are looking for

  • A current New Zealand EWRB registration as a Registered Electrician, along with an active practising licence, is required.
  • At least 7 years of engineering experience in a data centre, telecommunications, critical infrastructure, or a similar setting.
  • Strong knowledge of switchboards, UPS units, HVAC, generators, transformers, fire systems, and BMS platforms.
  • Experience working with contractors and technical service providers.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • An engineering qualification is considered an advantage.

Why this opportunity stands out

You will be part of a growing business in a sector that is central to modern technology infrastructure. The role offers exposure to leading vendors and customers, meaningful ownership of the environment you support, and opportunities to grow through training, development, certifications, and career progression.

What success looks like

Success in this position means becoming a trusted technical expert who helps keep one of New Zealand’s most connected data centres running reliably and safely. Your work will directly contribute to strong performance, continuous improvement, and the digital services that depend on this facility every day.
