About Sealord Group Ltd
Sealord Group Ltd is the Southern Hemisphere's largest seafood company, with over six decades of experience in fishing, farming, processing, and marketing seafood to customers worldwide. Founded in 1961, the Nelson-based Sealord is co-owned by the Māori people of New Zealand through Moana New Zealand (Aotearoa Fisheries Ltd) and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd (Nissui), a global seafood enterprise. Sealord holds some of the largest fishing quotas in New Zealand and maintains joint venture and international fishing operations across New Zealand and Australia.
Position Summary
We are currently seeking dedicated and experienced Chief Marine Engineers to join our team. This role is primarily based in Nelson, New Zealand, and entails a trip on, trip off schedule with trips spanning 2 to 6 weeks. Working hours are organized in 12-hour shifts. PPE and meals are provided onboard.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the mechanical and electrical performance of the fishing vessel's propulsion, fishing, processing, and auxiliary systems effectively and safely.
- Demonstrate proactive maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure systems operate efficiently while at sea.
- Work independently with excellent problem-solving capability and commitment toward preventive maintenance routines.
- Collaborate closely with a tight-knit crew to maintain operational safety and team cohesion during voyages.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum qualifications of MEC 4 and MEC 3 tickets appropriate for the Chief Engineer position.
- Proven experience operating as a Marine Engineer aboard deep-sea fishing vessels.
- Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to follow rules and instructions strictly.
- Ability to work resiliently under conditions at sea and respect towards team members and the marine environment.
- Legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and physical medical assessment.

- The role includes return trips lasting from two to six weeks on a rotating trip on, trip off basis.
