About the Role

The Outer Western Sydney Alliance represents a growing region with over one million residents, expected to increase by another half million by 2036. The Alliance unites seven councils—Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Penrith, and Wollondilly—covering over 8,000 square kilometres and two-thirds of Greater Sydney. The Chief Executive Officer position leads this collective partnership, driving strategic direction, advocacy, and regional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the leading figure for the Alliance, shaping and implementing business plans and goals aligned with the Mayoral Forum's strategic vision.
  • Advocate effectively to Commonwealth and NSW Governments focusing on transport, employment, housing, skills, and environmental priorities unique to the region.
  • Foster trusted relationships among member councils, government bodies, community organizations, and regional partners.
  • Manage Alliance staff, oversee financial resources, and ensure adherence to governance requirements according to the Constitution and Local Government Act.
  • Navigate political and organizational contexts, building trust and consensus without relying on positional authority.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Proven senior executive experience managing large or multifaceted organizations, preferably with local government exposure.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advocacy, intergovernmental relations, or public policy with credibility to engage senior government stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen alongside sound governance judgment.
  • Exceptional political awareness and ability to influence multiple stakeholders and principals effectively.
  • Experience working within the NSW Local Government Act 1993 framework and familiarity with outer western Sydney preferred.
  • Tertiary qualifications in public administration, policy, or business administration are highly regarded.

Additional Information

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to influence a diverse and dynamic region combining urban growth and natural heritage. The region's councils employ approximately 4,400 staff and allocate more than $1 billion annually on services, with an additional $660 million invested in community infrastructure.

Application Process: For confidential inquiries or to request a full candidate information pack, prospective applicants should contact Gareth Broadrick, Government Director. The application deadline is midnight, 11th August 2026.
