About the Role

The Department of Youth Justice & Victim Support is dedicated to enhancing the safety of Queensland communities by addressing the root causes of youth crime and supporting victims. This role is focused on providing professional intervention to young offenders involved with youth justice to reduce re-offending rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and develop cultural capability to foster an inclusive environment aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019, supporting programs and partnerships that maintain cultural ties for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Deliver strategic and operational human resource consultancy, advice, and services within allocated portfolios.
  • Operate effectively in a statutory setting by monitoring young offenders’ adherence to court orders and intervening to mitigate risks contributing to re-offending.
  • Use culturally sensitive, collaborative, and evidence-based assessments and interventions, including restorative justice activities, to actively reduce re-offending.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve beneficial outcomes for victims, young offenders, families, and the community.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive verbal and written reports to the Children’s Court, including court interviews, pre-sentence reports, affidavits, and supporting documentation.
  • Manage case records and perform data entry tasks to maintain casework integrity and accountability in line with policies and management requests.
  • Engage actively in continuous professional development such as training, supervision, and obtaining relevant accreditations to enhance organizational contribution.
