Business Analyst

Role summary

Impelsys is looking for a Business Analyst to contribute to an Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) program focused on meeting CMS-0057 requirements and improving prior authorization workflows and healthcare interoperability.

In this role, you will convert regulatory needs and business goals into practical functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans. You will work closely with U.S.-based stakeholders, clinical and utilization management teams, and distributed engineering groups to help drive successful delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, assess, and document business as well as functional needs for ePA workflows and FHIR-based API solutions.
• Turn business inputs into user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and detailed supporting documentation.
• Support Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning and backlog refinement, while keeping stakeholders informed.
• Monitor delivery status, surface risks such as dependencies on utilization management vendors, and suggest corrective actions.
• Assist with testing, quality assurance, process enhancement, and operational coordination across teams.
• Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to ensure regulatory requirements are implemented effectively.

Required experience and skills

• Proven background as a Business Analyst in regulated healthcare software delivery, especially around Electronic Prior Authorization and interoperability.
• Working knowledge of CMS-0057, ePA processes, and healthcare interoperability standards.
• Practical experience with FHIR APIs, healthcare data exchange, and interoperability initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Agile practices and the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Experience with tools such as Jira and Azure DevOps for requirements and project tracking.
• Ability to produce clear business documents, workflow diagrams, process maps, and functional specifications.
• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

Preferred skills

• SQL knowledge.
• Python knowledge.
• Experience with healthcare payer platforms and utilization management workflows.
• Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and CMS interoperability mandates.
