Role Overview

We are seeking a Biotechnology Research Scientist to join our Aberdeen Research Operation. This role enables you to advance your career by becoming a vital contributor within the defense sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and culture BSL-1 microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, algae, and protists.
• Develop and implement genetic engineering protocols, conducting DNA extraction, purification, analysis, assembly, host transformation, selection, and phenotypic profiling.
• Lead and assist in experiments that monitor microbial growth and activity, utilizing techniques such as microscopy, fluorescence assays, enzymatic and molecular tests, and software programming for control.
• Design and carry out experiments in biotechnology and synthetic biology within the Synthetic Biology Tools branch.
• Maintain lab equipment and supplies, schedule and perform experimental protocols, and ensure data and procedural quality.
• Adhere to regulatory compliance requirements.
• Prepare and deliver presentations and written summaries of research progress.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with a minimum of 1 year relevant experience; exceptional candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply.
• Familiarity with synthetic biology, biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
• Understanding of microbiology principles applied to non-medical defense biotechnology research.
• Experience designing and conducting synthetic biology or biotechnology experiments involving microorganisms.
• Knowledge of fundamental molecular biology techniques.

Additional Details

• Location: Adelphi, Maryland
• Citizenship requirement: U.S. citizen with active security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
• Travel: Approximately 5% travel expected.
• Compensation: Salary range $70,000 to $90,000 depending on experience and education.
