By combining technical and operational strength, an understanding of regulatory requirements and a dependable project management approach, px delivers safe, efficient and compliant capital projects and services across a wide range of industrial sectors.

The opportunity

px is hiring a Bid Manager for its Stockton office. This role oversees the full bid process, making sure every submission passes through the required approval stages, all documents and forms are complete, and the final package is reviewed before it is sent to the customer. The position is responsible for technical bid submissions, ensuring pricing is aligned to the technical solution, remains competitive, schedules are realistic, and scope is accurate, all within customer deadlines.

Support for the role includes tailored on-the-job learning, coaching, mentoring, and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help build capability and contribution.

Key duties

  • Own the technical response for opportunities received at the Stockton PXE facility, assess and prioritise them, and apply the right level of effort in line with customer needs and company strategy.
  • Maintain the bid pipeline so information is current, accurate and ready for reporting metrics and KPIs to management.
  • Work with the sales team to assess each opportunity and clarify the commercial position so customer handling is aligned.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure the opportunity is understood, effort is agreed, and the right information is gathered to build strong proposals.
  • Take full ownership of bid submissions, ensuring the process is followed, bids are accurate, and every opportunity receives a thorough review.
  • Keep bid folders and file structures organised so all information is stored correctly.
  • Carry out audits of the bid process.
  • Prepare and present technical bid reviews to management and secure approvals before submission.
  • Analyse bid costs carefully and identify the actions needed to support sound pricing decisions.
  • Ensure every bid meets client instructions, complies with requirements, and follows internal rules and regulations.
  • Work with the sales team on bid and tender tracking, logging and central updates.
  • Make sure px rules and regional requirements are followed.
  • Ensure relevant industry or scheme standards and proposal health and safety requirements are met.
  • Drive ongoing improvements to increase bid speed and improve bidding accuracy.
  • Work with purchasing teams each month to record changes and maintain competitive pricing assumptions.
  • Coordinate with wider teams to confirm scope, timing, costs and resource requirements for each opportunity.
  • Understand customer budgets and pricing/sales expectations.
  • Align with sales and other teams so OE proposals are supported and win probability is improved.
  • Track targets weekly and monthly to highlight opportunities, conversion likelihood and win rates.
  • Represent the business with clients on major opportunities and support technical presentations before award.

Minimum requirements

  • Degree or HNC qualification in a technical or engineering subject.
  • Understanding of heavy engineering or a related costing environment.
  • Ability to deliver bids and critical client requirements consistently on time and to specification.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings and bills of materials to support cost validation.
  • Proven background in bid and tender delivery in a similar industry, including submissions through tender portals.
  • Strong experience in technical tender preparation and bid writing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise multiple workstreams, manage competing deadlines and work collaboratively across sites.
  • Ability to work directly with bids, sales and project teams to ensure proposal content matches client expectations.
  • Confidence in presenting tailored technical solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for client meetings.
  • Completion of the company induction for the role.

Benefits

  • 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Contribution toward eye tests and glasses.
  • Access to an online employee discount platform, including discounts on cinema tickets and gym membership.
