Role overview
This Wellington-based, full-time fixed-term position runs for 12 months and offers a midpoint salary of $82,061, depending on experience. The role sits close to the centre of the Ministry and supports the Director-General of Health along with ministerial priorities through coordination, analysis, and advisory assistance.
You will partner with Senior and Principal Advisors to organise information, support executive workflows, and help make sure key priorities are clearly understood, progressed, and delivered. The role suits someone who is proactive, well organised, and interested in developing advisory capability in a high-performing setting.
Key responsibilities
- Track and coordinate Director-General priorities, making sure actions, owners, and progress are easy to follow
- Assist with preparation and coordination of the Minister of Health’s Weekly Report
- Manage and triage the DG Advisory inbox
- Help prepare briefings, summaries, and advice for senior leaders
- Spot developing risks and issues and escalate them with suitable context
- Support decision-making by helping analyse information, shape issues, and check the quality of advice
- Work across teams to maintain visibility, alignment, and follow-through on commitments
- Develop strong internal relationships and contribute to stakeholder engagement
- Support improvements to processes, tools, and day-to-day ways of working

- Background in policy, monitoring, corporate, advisory, or a similar environment
- Good analytical ability and the capacity to turn information into clear, practical advice
- Sound judgement, discretion, and comfort working through uncertainty with guidance
- Strong planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to handle several deadlines at once
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to develop and sustain productive working relationships
- Interest in, or understanding of, government processes
