Role Summary

The National Disposals Officer position is vital for enhancing financial returns by managing the disposal of obsolete and surplus assets throughout Newmont’s Australian operations. This role involves directing the entire disposal process, from evaluation to final disposition, leveraging multiple channels such as resale, auctions, or scrapping.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading assessment and disposal activities of surplus and obsolete assets across multiple mining sites.
• Managing the complete disposal lifecycle including asset registration, approval processes, tracking, and disposition.
• Determining optimal disposal methods based on commercial viability to maximize recovery value.
• Negotiating with markets, selecting disposal channels, and applying strategic pricing to achieve financial goals.
• Ensuring adherence to governance and company procedures by facilitating necessary approvals.
• Maintaining precise records of asset movements and financial allocations to relevant cost centers.
• Evaluating disposal results to identify improvements that enhance recovery and reduce losses.
• Contributing positively to a safe and collaborative Supply Chain team environment.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in asset disposal, inventory control, or materials management within mining or heavy industry sectors.
• Strong commercial insight with the ability to maximize value from surplus and obsolete assets through informed market decisions.
• Knowledge of asset valuation methods, secondary markets, and pricing strategies related to mining equipment and materials.
• Ability to effectively influence and manage diverse internal and external stakeholder relationships.
• High attention to detail ensuring thorough governance, documentation, and approval tracking.
• Capability to coordinate across multiple sites and prioritize competing tasks efficiently.
• Familiarity with SAP or equivalent enterprise resource planning systems is advantageous.
• Tertiary education in Commerce, Supply Chain, Business, or related fields is preferred but not mandatory.
• Understanding of mining operations, including Fixed Plant and Mobile Equipment, adds value.

Additional Information

The role belongs within the Supply Chain function and reports to the Lead of Materials Management and Logistics for Australia. It requires routine travel to Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and New South Wales sites.
