Role Overview

The Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct hosts young men aged 17 and above in custody, focusing on their rehabilitation through positive role modeling and ensuring a secure environment. Youth justice workers serve as the frontline personnel supervising and guiding these young individuals, promoting safety, structure, and positive behavior within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a safe and secure environment for both staff and residents.
  • Encourage young people to establish healthy daily routines and structure.
  • Manage and redirect challenging or antisocial behaviors to meet community standards.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to incidents as they arise.
  • Support young people in developing positive relationships with family and peers.
  • Coordinate access to external support services, including healthcare, education, mental health, and disability organizations.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens with valid work eligibility for more than six months.
  • Pre-service health and fitness assessments are mandatory.
  • Prior to employment start, candidates must independently obtain: Current First Aid Certification (HLTAID011), Current CPR Certification, and a valid Working with Children Check (Employee).
  • Holding a driver's license is preferred but not required.
