The Fortis Mining, Engineering & Manufacturing division is expanding and searching for a meticulous and passionate Welder/Fabricator. This role involves operating manual or semi-automatic welding machinery, interpreting blueprints, and following welding process specifications. Fortis is recognized in Saskatchewan for its innovation, integrity, and community involvement.
Work Schedule
The position is for weekend shifts with the following hours:
Monday to Thursday: 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Friday to Sunday: 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Role Responsibilities
- Perform fabrication and welding assignments
- Interpret blueprints and welding process specifications accurately
- Operate welding equipment including manual and semi-automatic machines for processes such as GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW
- Use manual or semi-automatic flame cutting tools
- Manage metal shaping machines including brakes, shears, straightening, and bending equipment
- Conduct repairs, modifications, and retrofitting tasks
- Stay updated on evolving technology, compliance, and repair techniques
- Adhere strictly to company policies and health, safety, and environmental standards
- Maintain safe work practices at all times
- Travel to job sites for onsite welding and fitting as required
- Inspect and maintain machinery; clean tools and equipment regularly
- Report maintenance or repair needs to supervisors promptly
- Complete inspection records and reports diligently
- Follow job processing protocols as defined by the company
- Take job instructions from the Welding Supervisor for each assignment
- Provide administrative details like job numbers for accurate tracking
- Review and understand work orders before commencing tasks
- Ensure thorough recording of all parts and components used during recertification
- Keep detailed and accurate logs of time spent on each job
Candidate Requirements
- Valid Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certification in GMAW and SMAW, certified in all positions
- Preferred minimum of one year of welding experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, though not mandatory
- Possession of safety-related training and certifications is advantageous but not obligatory
- Minimum education level of Grade 12 or its equivalent
- Strong welding and fabrication skills with relevant knowledge
- Manual dexterity to operate power and hand tools effectively
- Experience in routine maintenance operations
- Ability to adapt to dynamic work conditions, manage competing demands, and handle frequent changes or unexpected situations
- Sound judgment and discretion in decision-making
- Strong time management capabilities; capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines
