Position Overview
We are seeking a Waste Response Officer to join our Waste and Sustainability team. This permanent full-time role is based in Coolaroo, Victoria, offering an annual salary of $75,568.48 plus superannuation. The role involves frontline engagement addressing illegal dumping in residential zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Promptly respond to reports of illegal dumping within designated zones.
- Examine dumped waste for any evidence, document findings, and refer details for further investigation as appropriate.
- Safely and efficiently remove small quantities of dumped waste.
- Manually load and unload vehicles, adhering strictly to manual handling guidelines.
- Transport waste materials following Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) regulations and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of service requests, actions taken, photographic evidence, and outcomes using the Council’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Utilize platforms like IntraMaps and WasteEdge to manage and complete job tasks.
- Comply fully with workplace health and safety procedures and standards.
- Apply proper hygiene and handling practices, especially when managing hazardous substances.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven understanding of municipal amenity services operations and best practices.
- Familiarity with legislation and regulations relevant to waste services.
- Capability to effectively communicate and gain cooperation from a diverse community.
- Experience in waste service roles, compliance, or field-based public interaction jobs.
- Knowledge of CRM systems, mapping tools, or incident management software is advantageous.
- Understanding of EPA waste transport and safety responsibilities is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Mandatory Certifications and Qualifications
- White Card certification.
- Completion of Asbestos Awareness Training.
- Traffic Control Training or Short Term Low Impact Training.
- Manual Handling Training.
- Hazardous Substances and Dangerous Goods Training.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Valid Victorian Driver’s Licence.
