Sustainability and Environmental Impact Advisor

Overview

ABM UK is hiring a proactive Sustainability and Social Impact Advisor to contribute towards environmental, sustainability, and social value goals at Heathrow Airport. Since 1987, ABM UK has provided award-winning facility management and aviation services to over 1,500 locations across the UK, including essential operations at Heathrow, one of the country's busiest airports.

The advisor will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of ESG and sustainability initiatives, with an emphasis on generating measurable social impact and enhancing community outcomes. The role requires collaboration with operational teams, suppliers, community partners, and client stakeholders to embed sustainable practices aligned with contract and Heathrow's broader sustainability aims.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering ABM's sustainability, ESG, and social impact objectives for the Heathrow Airport contract.
• Manage community engagement efforts including volunteering programs, local employment, apprenticeships, wellbeing, and education outreach activities.
• Develop and nurture strong partnerships with charities, community groups, educational institutions, suppliers, and stakeholders to drive social impact goals.
• Support operational teams to integrate sustainable and socially responsible practices into daily service delivery.
• Help monitor and report on environmental performance metrics such as waste management, recycling, carbon reduction, resource efficiency, and other ESG KPIs.
• Collect, maintain, and verify accurate social impact and sustainability data in compliance with client and contract reporting standards.
• Promote environmental awareness and engage employees in sustainability initiatives throughout the site.
• Support the creation of sustainability communications, case studies, presentations, and internal updates to showcase progress.
• Contribute to environmental inspections, audits, and ESG compliance reviews on site.
• Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure alignment with ABM’s sustainability and social impact expectations.
• Identify and suggest improvements to enhance sustainability performance and increase positive social outcomes at Heathrow operations.
• Assist in organizing community events, charity partnerships, career fairs, and employee volunteering activities.
• Work closely with HR, HSEQ, procurement, and learning & development teams to advance wider sustainability and responsible business objectives.
• Stay updated on industry best practices, Heathrow's sustainability priorities, and emerging trends in ESG and social impact.

Requirements

• Previous experience in sustainability, ESG, social impact, CSR, environmental, or community engagement roles.
• Strong understanding of sustainability concepts, ESG frameworks, and social impact delivery methodologies.
• Proven ability to engage with operational teams, suppliers, community organizations, and other external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading projects, initiatives, or reporting processes.
• Competence in collecting, analyzing, and presenting sustainability and social impact data clearly and accurately.
• Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage multiple responsibilities.
• Attention to detail with strong reporting and administrative capabilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Self-driven and capable of working independently within an operational, site-based environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in aviation, facilities management, transportation, or similar operational sectors.
• Familiarity with social value measurement and reporting frameworks.
• Knowledge of environmental management systems and sustainability reporting processes.
• Background supporting volunteering, employee wellbeing, or community engagement initiatives.
• Awareness of Heathrow Airport's sustainability and community focus areas is advantageous.

Working Conditions & Location

This is a full-time position based onsite at the World Business Centre, Heathrow, with hybrid working options. The role reports to the Head of Sustainability, Environment & Social Value and involves a 40-hour workweek.
