Job description
Overview
The Steward is responsible for ensuring that kitchen areas remain clean, organized, and hygienic while maintaining restaurant equipment and utensils in excellent condition. This position supports culinary and service teams in fostering a safe, sanitary, and efficient workspace, which is crucial for delivering outstanding guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly sweep and mop floors to uphold cleanliness standards.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, trays, and glassware manually or with dishwashing machines.
- Clean and sanitize worktables, walls, refrigerators, and all kitchen surfaces diligently.
- Manage waste by disposing of trash and maintaining garbage cans in clean condition.
- Sort recyclable materials including bottles, ensuring proper processing.
- Polish silverware and utensils when necessary.
- Transport supplies and equipment between storage and workstations efficiently.
- Assist with banquet table preparations when required.
- Participate in basic food preparation tasks such as washing and peeling vegetables.
- Organize and rotate stock in designated storage areas to maintain order and cleanliness.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support kitchen operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in stewarding, kitchen support, or hospitality sectors is preferred.
- Knowledge of commercial dishwashing equipment and cleaning procedures is advantageous.
- Experience working within fast-paced, team-oriented, high-volume environments is beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent educational background is required.
