Software Engineering Manager

Role overview

An expanding technology company is investing heavily in Edinburgh and setting up a fresh engineering hub with around 15 to 20 software engineers. The team will focus on advanced video security technology used by customers across the globe. This opening is for a Software Engineering Manager who wants to build, scale, and guide a high-performing engineering group in a fast-moving environment where innovation, teamwork, and technology are closely connected.

The role suits an experienced people leader who enjoys enabling engineers to do their best work while staying sufficiently involved in technical conversations to help shape direction and delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Help establish and expand a new Edinburgh engineering team through hiring, onboarding, and ongoing coaching.
• Foster a team environment centred on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Lead and develop software engineers so they can meet team goals and individual development objectives.
• Work closely with engineering leaders and teams in Edinburgh and across other international locations.
• Partner with Product, UX, and engineering stakeholders to deliver new features and product enhancements.
• Support Agile practices and help the team continually improve how it works.
• Promote the effective use of AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity and output quality.
• Take part in technical conversations and help the team work through complex engineering issues.

Required background

• Demonstrated experience managing software engineering teams.
• Hands-on software development background with a strong grasp of the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience hiring, onboarding, and growing engineering talent.
• Solid knowledge of Agile delivery approaches.
• Exposure to cloud environments, particularly AWS and/or Azure.
• Experience with distributed systems or large-scale infrastructure.
• Understanding of security-focused engineering practices.
• Collaborative leadership style with strong stakeholder management ability.
• Interest in using AI tools and modern software engineering methods.
• Useful additional experience: work with video technology, video platforms, or security products.

• Base salary of £80,000 to £100,000, with room for flexibility for outstanding candidates.
