Alameda is a pioneering control plane as a service managing over 14 AWS services, analogous to how EC2, EBS, and RDS modernized compute, storage, and databases. It provides secure, scalable building blocks such as APIs, Workflows, and Telemetry that allow developers to concentrate on core business functionality rather than undifferentiated service creation. This platform delivers secure-by-default, AWS-scaled runtime services.

Job Description

We seek a dedicated leader passionate about creating foundational building blocks for the next generation of AWS services. As a Software Development Manager within Alameda, you will oversee a team of engineers managing the full product and engineering lifecycle from initial concept to delivery, enhancing critical systems supporting AWS service operations.

This position requires collaboration with a broad engineering community and customers to foster wide adoption and instigate transformative change. Responsibilities include crafting and executing a strategic long-term roadmap, aligning with AWS Services on priorities, and nurturing a talented team of engineers, all while influencing the future of AWS development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers addressing sophisticated software challenges.
• Collaborate effectively with customers, leadership, and multiple engineering teams.
• Define and guide technical strategy leveraging extensive software development expertise.
• Enforce rigorous engineering practices throughout the full software development lifecycle, encompassing code standards, peer reviews, source control, build and testing processes, and live operations.
• Make architectural decisions and design systems capable of scaling efficiently.
• Resolve foundational problems by embracing a comprehensive contextual understanding.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years managing engineering teams.
• At least 7 years of direct experience working within engineering teams.
• 3 or more years designing and architecting new and existing systems focusing on design patterns, reliability, and scalability.
• Over 8 years leading multi-tier web service development efforts.
• Proficiency with engineering practices encompassing software, hardware, and network development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build and test processes, certification, and production operations.
• Experience collaborating with product and program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Skilled in communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leaders to gather requirements and articulate product features, designs, and strategies.
• Experienced in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams to enhance skill sets and productivity.
