About the Role
The Trade and International Economic Relations (TIER) cluster is responsible for formulating Singapore's foreign economic policies and promoting the nation's economic interests on the international stage. Within this framework, the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s International Trade Division (ITD) plays a key role in safeguarding and advancing Singapore's economic objectives by supporting free trade, maintaining a rules-based multilateral trading system, fostering deeper economic integration through free trade agreements and bilateral investment treaties, leading efforts in regional economic forums such as APEC, and actively reducing barriers to exports.
Key Responsibilities
- Join one specialized team focusing on trade in goods, digital economy and services, investment, or multilateral trade policy.
- Develop and execute Singapore's foreign economic policies.
- Represent Singapore in bilateral and multilateral trade and investment negotiations.
- Attend international conferences and meetings relevant to trade and economic policies.
- Provide strategic advice to government bodies regarding trade policy.
- Engage with external stakeholders including local businesses, chambers of commerce, and the public.
- Ensure compliance with and timely implementation of international trade commitments.
- Analyze global economic developments and assess their impact on Singapore.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Educational background preferably in Economics, Law, Political Science, International Relations, Accounting, Business, or related fields, though this is not mandatory.
- A strong passion for international economic matters and negotiation processes.
- Excellent analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in teams within fast-moving and dynamic settings.
- Flexibility and willingness to undertake frequent travel.
