About the Role

Join Grünenthal Group's Research & Development team as a full-time, on-site Scientist specializing in in-vitro pharmacology based in Aachen, Germany. You will contribute to innovative treatment development aimed at enhancing patients' lives while supporting the company's vision of a world without pain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, perform, and interpret in-vitro pharmacological experiments independently, covering phases from hit identification to candidate selection, integrating results to guide decisions at various stages of drug discovery and clinical programs.
  • Create mechanistic assays to evaluate target biology, modes of action, and competitor benchmarks to support strategic asset positioning.
  • Apply specialized knowledge in pharmacological characterization of GPCRs, ion channels, transporters, or kinases to produce high-quality, decision-supportive data.
  • Manage external collaborations by overseeing study design, providing scientific leadership, prioritizing outsourced projects, and ensuring alignment with internal strategies.
  • Act as the Primary Pharmacology representative within cross-functional teams, influencing project and portfolio-level decisions.
  • Supervise laboratory operations to maintain rigorous data quality, documentation, and scientific communication internally and with external partners.

Candidate Profile

  • Holds a PhD in in-vitro pharmacology, neuroscience, cell biology, or related discipline with at least five years of drug discovery experience in industry.
  • Expertise in neuroscience areas such as epilepsy or neurodegeneration, with additional understanding of neuroimmune interactions considered advantageous.
  • Strong background in developing and conducting pharmacological assays targeting GPCRs, ion channels, transporters, or kinases.
  • Proficient in analytical and quantitative pharmacology with experience in data analysis, modeling, and interpretation.
  • Ability to translate in-vitro data into actionable project decisions, understanding its role within the drug discovery pipeline and relevance to human translation.
  • Experience managing hybrid models including internal teams and outsourced collaborators or CROs.
  • Organized and proactive with excellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills; fluent in English with strong communication and presentation abilities.
