Job Overview
The Safety Officer role within Facility Management involves overseeing the safety of buildings, workplaces, and facilities to protect employees, contractors, visitors, and occupants. This role prioritizes accident prevention, ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations, and fostering an organization-wide culture of safety.
Primary Duties
- Perform regular safety inspections and conduct thorough risk assessments.
- Detect workplace hazards and apply corrective measures promptly.
- Ensure strict compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and organizational policies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety protocols and emergency response strategies.
- Arrange and conduct fire drills, evacuation simulations, and training on emergency preparedness.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses; develop recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Oversee and verify the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to maintain safe conditions for equipment and facilities.
- Keep detailed safety logs, inspection documentation, and compliance records.
- Provide safety training sessions and promote safety awareness for staff and contractors.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Well-versed in occupational health and safety regulations.
- Capable of conducting risk assessments and identifying hazards efficiently.
- Experienced in emergency response planning and incident management.
- Strong communication and leadership capabilities.
- Proficient in report preparation and comprehensive documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail.
Qualification Criteria
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or an equivalent area.
- Certifications such as NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC), IOSH Managing Safely, or OSHA Safety Certification are required.
- Additional First Aid and Fire Safety certifications are often favored.
