Job description

Role Overview

The Safety Officer will oversee the safe completion of industrial electrification and diesel generator installation projects at client locations, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols to protect personnel, equipment, and assets.

Key Duties

  • Perform site-specific risk evaluations and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) prior to commencement of tasks.
  • Enforce implementation of Safety Plans, Method Statements, and Permit-to-Work procedures including hot work, work at heights, lifting operations, and lockout-tagout (LOTO).
  • Maintain Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance standards throughout the electrical and mechanical installation activities on site.
  • Supervise critical high-risk operations such as lifting, electrical connections, fuel handling, and mechanical equipment assembly.
  • Lead daily safety briefings and toolbox talks for onsite workers and contractors.
  • Inspect personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, and lifting apparatus; ensure immediate correction of any safety violations.
  • Manage proper storage and transfer of diesel fuel to prevent fire or spill incidents.
  • Collaborate closely with project engineers and client representatives to address all safety-related concerns.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and documentation of near-misses, accidents, and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain updated safety audit checklists, inspection reports, and compliance documentation including HIRA records.
  • Ensure preparedness for emergencies through regular firefighting, first aid, and evacuation drills.

Authority

Authorized to halt any unsafe activities until identified hazards are fully controlled.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety.
  • 2 to 3 years experience managing safety on electrical or mechanical installation projects.
  • In-depth understanding of diesel generator systems and their associated risks.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to champion safety culture among teams.
  • Possession of NEBOSH certification is desirable.
