Higgins, a prominent civil infrastructure and roading company in New Zealand, is seeking a dependable and motivated Roadmarking Assistant to join its Palmerston North team. This role focuses on delivering roadmarking and pavement marking services across the Manawatū-Whanganui region.

Role Details

The Roadmarking Assistant contributes significantly to the delivery of superior roadmarking projects, gaining practical skills by working closely with seasoned Roadmarking Operators. The position primarily involves night shifts—approximately 85% of the work occurs overnight—to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently while reducing disruption to traffic. Flexibility to work night shifts as well as occasional day and weekend shifts is essential. This is a permanent, full-time position offering stable hours, ongoing professional training, and career growth prospects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with applying road and pavement markings.
• Prepare materials, equipment, and vehicles for daily tasks.
• Support site setup and pack down operations.
• Help manage traffic control activities when required.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on vehicles, plant, and equipment.
• Ensure work is conducted safely, efficiently, and meets quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with Roadmarking Operators and Supervisors.
• Carry out general labor tasks as necessary.
• Work predominantly night shifts, with occasional day and weekend work.
• Promote a positive team atmosphere and maintain a safe working environment.

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a valid Full Class 1 Driver Licence.
• Demonstrate willingness and ability to work night shifts regularly.
• Commit strongly to health and safety practices.
• Maintain good physical fitness and readiness for hands-on work.
• Comfortable working outdoors under various weather conditions.
• Exhibit a positive mindset and eagerness to learn new skills.
• Show reliability, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.
• Previous experience in roadmarking, civil construction, roading, or infrastructure is preferred but not mandatory.
